This is very similar to The Sims 2 Apartment Life and The Sims 3 base game (that Create-A-Style tool is extremely handy and powerful). The expansion pack comes with an old, worn-down Build/Buy set.You can join a rally and protest, or you can start your own protest - very similar to The Sims 3 University Life.On top of the different ethnic cuisines, you can finally do grocery shopping and haggle for prices.It is as if the Sims just duplicate the food and eat the duplicate instead of actually eating the food, like in The Sims 2 or The Sims 3. The ethnic hairstyles and clothing and cuisines are awesome! Though, The Sims 4 food animations are just weird.Karaoke was also in The Sims 2 NightLife and The Sims 3 ShowTime. In The Sims 2, you can use the Microphone in Belladonna Cove, but it's not really a separate skill. This is very similar to the Singing Microphone that you get in The Sims 2 Apartment Life, but this time, Singing is an actual skill. You can go to the playground and play basketball.You can enter the new Politics career, Food/Art Critic career and Social Media Influencer career.Apparently, the apartment building in City Living isn't really a real building like in The Sims 2 or a shell like in The Sims 3. You can meet your neighbors like in The Sims 2 Apartment Life and The Sims 3 Late Night, but The Sims 2 Apartment Life allows you to meet neighbors without a loading screen as they are on the same apartment lot and The Sims 3 Late Night at least allows you to enter the apartment building, press a button on the elevator and go up the elevator.I have not tried the Competitions yet, but they are a thing in this expansion pack.Like The Sims 2 Apartment Life, there are street performers.
My Sim has joined a Cultural Festival and lit fireworks. You live in a modern city, very similar to Bridgeport from The Sims 3 Late Night or The Sims 2 NightLife or The Sims 2 Apartment Life.I also made a checklist of all the things I wanted to experiment with this expansion pack. I just downloaded it for free yesterday and began playing it. The Sims 4 City Living Expansion Pack is currently on trial for the whole weekend.
